Mentoring that builds confidence

Whether you’re starting your teaching journey or preparing for leadership, personalised mentoring helps you grow with confidence, clarity, and purpose.

I offer practical, honest guidance from someone who’s been there - helping you achieve your goals without the guesswork.

What I offer

Mentoring

My mentoring style is practical, reflective, and grounded in real classroom and leadership experience. I don’t offer generic advice - I help teachers think strategically, build confidence, and find approaches that fit their values and context.

Each session focuses on:

  • Clarity – understanding what your next step looks like and what evidence or experience will help you get there.

  • Confidence – identifying your strengths, developing presence, and learning to communicate your impact effectively.

  • Growth – building leadership habits that are sustainable, authentic, and focused on long-term success — not just surviving the next term.

Here’s what I offer:

  • Career and role planning: mapping out the best route towards your goal (e.g. Head of Department, DSL, SENCO).

  • Application and interview support: reviewing job descriptions, crafting strong personal statements, and preparing clear examples of impact.

  • Leadership style reflection:  explore different leadership approaches and identify which best suits your values, strengths, and context.

  • Evidence of impact: identifying, framing, and presenting your work effectively using the language senior leaders look for.

  • Leadership mentoring : understanding how to influence, manage change, and work within systems and budgets.

  • Confidence and mindset coaching: practical strategies to build credibility, resilience, and presence as a leader.

  • Honest insider advice: including what I wish someone had told me before stepping into leadership roles, to save you time, stress, and money.

Understanding the challenges

Many teachers and trainees find themselves thrown in at the deep end - expected to swim without much support.

Quality of experience often depends on the school, resources, or the mentor assigned - and that can make all the difference.

You might recognise some of these situations:

  • Feeling overwhelmed or underprepared during training or your NQT/ECT year

  • Struggling with workload, classroom management, or self-confidence

  • Trying to prove yourself in a new role without clear guidance

  • Wanting to progress - but not knowing how to take that next step

  • Seeing others get opportunities that feel “pre-decided” and wondering what you’re missing

As teachers move into leadership, delegation often becomes one of the hardest transitions. Many new middle leaders feel torn between wanting things done the right way and learning to trust others to take ownership.

Balancing accountability with collaboration can feel uncomfortable at first - especially when you’re still finding your leadership voice.
With guidance, it’s possible to build systems that empower your team, protect your time, and strengthen outcomes for everyone.

Sometimes, though, the biggest challenge isn’t skill - it’s self-belief.
Many brilliant teachers underestimate their impact or hold back from applying for roles they could absolutely do.

You might already be demonstrating the leadership qualities of a Head of Department, DSL, or SENCO - but doubt whether you’re ready.

Mentoring helps you develop both competence and confidence - learning how to manage people, evidence impact, and go for the roles you deserve. It’s about growing as a professional and as a leader, with practical strategies and the self-assurance to take your next step.

My experience

Over the last 15 years, I’ve worked across a range of leadership and teaching roles that have shaped my understanding of what it truly means to succeed - and sometimes struggle - in education.

I’ve held positions including:

  • Head of Department

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

  • Head of Key Stage

  • Acting Assistant Headteacher

  • SENCO support and inclusion lead

I’ve learned first-hand (often through trial, reflection, and mistakes) what these roles demand: leading under pressure, balancing people and priorities, managing change with limited resources, and keeping pupils’ needs at the centre of every decision.

Along the way, I completed the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership and worked within challenging contexts where clarity, communication, and teamwork mattered most.

These experiences sparked my passion for supporting others - from mentoring and leading CPD in school to now helping educators progress.

That perspective allows me to offer honest, realistic guidance that bridges experience with empathy - helping teachers and leaders prepare not just for the role, but for the realities of the role.
